        "content": "<p>JAKARTA \u2013 The government is promoting the development of the national\nbioethanol industry as part of efforts to strengthen energy security\nwhile increasing the added value of agricultural commodities.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry\/BKPM considers\nbioethanol to be closely linked to the downstreaming agenda, energy\ntransition, energy security and the strengthening of the national\neconomy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe development of bioethanol is connected to four main agendas,\nnamely energy security, downstreaming, energy transition and economic\nresilience. Indonesia has a variety of raw material sources, including\nsugarcane, cassava and sorghum, which can be further processed to\ngenerate added value domestically,\u201d explained Deputy Minister of\nInvestment and Downstream Industry\/Deputy Head of BKPM Todotua Pasaribu,\nquoted from various sources, Tuesday (15\/09\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>The statement was made following the inauguration of the Bioethanol\nDevelopment Center in Tegineneng, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung, on Monday\n(14\/09\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>The facility is the result of a collaboration between PT Pertamina\nNew &amp; Renewable Energy and PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia\nto prepare industrial capacity ahead of the implementation of\nbioethanol-blended petrol up to E20.<\/p>\n<p>Demand for bioethanol is expected to rise as national petrol\nconsumption is projected to reach 39.7 million kilolitres by 2029.<\/p>\n<p>At the initial implementation of E5, national bioethanol demand is\nestimated at 1.7 to 2 million kilolitres per year, while domestic\nfuel-grade production remains limited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe development of bioethanol for petrol complements the use of\nbiodiesel for diesel fuel. The involvement of the automotive industry is\nimportant to support the connection between fuel development and the\nvehicle technologies that use it,\u201d said Todotua.<\/p>\n<p>The Bioethanol Development Center in Tegineneng uses a\nmulti-feedstock concept with raw materials including molasses, sorghum\nand biomass waste.<\/p>\n<p>The development centre has an initial capacity of 60 kilolitres and\nis targeted to begin production by December 2026 at the latest, before\nbeing scaled up to 60,000 kilolitres in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the public can also take part in planting. We can also run a\ncooperative concept. The cooperatives will later become raw material\ncollection centres, while the facility here will act as the absorber or\nofftaker,\u201d concluded Todotua.<\/p>",
