The Indonesian government has introduced a mandatory work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) every Friday to enhance energy efficiency amid global conflicts, as announced by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto. Additional measures include reducing official vehicle usage by 50%, promoting public transport, and cutting domestic and international official travel by 50% and 70% respectively. The People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) will also adopt WFH and work-from-anywhere (WFA) schemes starting 1 April, alongside electricity savings and a four-day workweek with on-duty rotations on Fridays to ensure operational continuity.

The government is implementing work from home (WFH) for civil
servants (ASN) one day a week, every Friday, to achieve energy
efficiency in the face of global conflicts.

“The implementation of WFH for ASN in central and regional offices,
one working day per week, namely every Friday, is regulated in the
Circular Letter from the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and
Bureaucratic Reform and the Circular Letter from the Minister of Home
Affairs,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto
during a press conference in Seoul, South Korea, on Tuesday (31/3).

The government is also restricting the use of official vehicles and
encouraging the use of public transport.

“Mobility efficiency includes limiting official vehicle usage by 50%
except for operational needs and electric vehicles, and promoting public
transport,” said Airlangga.

In addition, the government is limiting domestic official travel by
50% and international travel by 70%.

Meanwhile, the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) of the Republic
of Indonesia will begin implementing efficiency measures on Wednesday
(1/4).

MPR General Secretary Siti Fauziah stated that the efficiency will be
carried out through work arrangements for employees via work from home
(WFH), work from anywhere (WFA), and savings in electricity usage.

“So, with this call for savings, we at the MPR are implementing WFA
and WFH. This will start from 1 April tomorrow. The regulations have
already been put in place, and electricity savings are being implemented
by limiting working hours,” said Siti at the parliamentary complex on
Tuesday (31/3).

She explained that electricity savings are being done by turning off
the power supply at 18:00 WIB, so all activities are expected to finish
by 17:00 WIB.

Siti said that the WFA and WFH scheme will be regulated so as not to
disrupt the activities of the leadership or MPR members.

The MPR is also setting the work pattern for employees to four
working days per week. On Fridays, a duty roster system will be in
place.

“So, because we don’t rule out the possibility of activities by the
leadership or members on Fridays, there will be a duty roster; one unit
will be represented by only two people, while the others will be on WFH
or WFA. That’s what we’re implementing,” she said.

Siti reminded employees carrying out WFH or WFA that they must still
come to the office if needed at any time.

“We are also implementing that if there is a violation, for example,
we ask them to return to the office and they don’t return for various
reasons, we will also apply sanction or disciplinary punishment rules
according to the existing regulations,” she said.
",
