        "content": "<p>Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy for Investment Information Technology at\nthe Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming\/Investment Coordinating\nBoard (BKPM), Ricky Kusmayadi, stated that the government is focusing\ndata centre development in Batam City, Riau Islands Province.<\/p>\n<p>Ricky said Batam has been chosen as the focus for data centre\ndevelopment due in part to its strategically advantageous geographical\nposition. \u201cThe government has prepared a focus for data centres in the\nBatam area because it is close to overseas markets, in this case\nSingapore,\u201d he said in Jakarta on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the selection of Batam as the focal location for\ndata centre development is part of efforts to distribute investment more\nevenly. \u201cThe hope is that investment is not solely concentrated in Java\nor Jakarta, and that this can spread investment growth beyond Java,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Ricky explained that data centre infrastructure growth in Southeast\nAsia is projected to reach 200 per cent, faster than the global average.\nAccording to him, this is driven by digital economic growth through the\nadoption of technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud\ncomputing, social media, and e-commerce.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia is considered capable of becoming a key driver of data\ncentre growth, with data centre capacity projected to reach 936\nmegawatts by 2028, representing growth of more than 210 per cent from\nthe current 430 megawatts. \u201cHigh demand levels, connectivity, strong AI\nreadiness, energy costs, and affordable land support data centre growth\nin Indonesia,\u201d said Ricky.<\/p>\n<p>Director General of Digital Government Technology at the Ministry of\nCommunication and Digital, Mira Tayyiba, said Indonesia has strategic\npotential to become an investment destination for digital\ninfrastructure, including data centres. The large domestic digital\neconomy market and high internet penetration rates in Indonesia could\nyield returns on data centre investment.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Indonesia possesses resource potential to generate 207\ngigawatts of electricity from solar power and 29 gigawatts from\ngeothermal energy to support sustainable data centre development.<\/p>",
