State Secretary Minister (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi has affirmed that\nthe government is still able to manage the impact of the magnitude 7\nearthquake that struck several areas in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).\nBecause disaster response is still considered to be proceeding well, the\ngovernment has not yet opened the option of accepting assistance from\nforeign countries. \u201cNot yet (opening up to assistance from other\ncountries),\u201d said Prasetyo at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday\n(17\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
Prasetyo said the decision was based on periodic reports received by\nthe government from officers conducting monitoring in the field. From\nthese reports, the government assessed that the needs for handling the\nearthquake\u2019s impact can still be met.<\/p>\n
According to Prasetyo, the government continues to monitor conditions\nin the affected areas and ensure that the various needs of the community\ncan be addressed. The government is not only attending to the logistical\nneeds of affected residents, but also shelter requirements and plans for\nrestoring the homes of those affected by the earthquake.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will see later, because based on the daily reports we receive\nfrom colleagues monitoring the field, everything can still be handled\nwell,\u201d said Prasetyo.<\/p>\n
He added that logistical needs and shelter are still being handled by\nthe government. In addition, the government has also begun identifying\nthe need for temporary housing (huntara) and permanent housing (huntap)\nfor affected communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cBoth logistical needs, shelter, and even plans for repairing\ntemporary and permanent housing are already in the identification\nprocess,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The statement also indicates that the government is still evaluating\ndevelopments on the ground before determining whether it requires\nsupport from other countries.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has\nconfirmed that on-the-ground response efforts are continuing even though\nthere are no longer reports of missing residents following the\nearthquake. Acting Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and\nCommunication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan, said personnel from the\nNational Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) remain on standby in seven\naffected districts.<\/p>\n
