        "content": "<p>The central government, through the Brantas River Basin Agency\n(BBWS), has built infrastructure to control volcanic material flows from\nMount Semeru in Curahpetung Village and Supiturang Village, Lumajang\nRegency, East Java.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA protective embankment has been constructed in Curah Lengkong\nHamlet, Curahpetung Village, and two check dam units in Supiturang\nVillage have been erected as part of measures to reduce disaster risk\nfor the community,\u201d said Isnugroho, Head of the Lumajang Regional\nDisaster Management Agency (BPBD), in Lumajang on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>He said the infrastructure is an important part of efforts to reduce\ndisaster risk, particularly in areas located along volcanic material\nflow paths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe central government, through BBWS, is moving proactively to\nstrengthen disaster mitigation infrastructure in areas prone to Mount\nSemeru eruptions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIts presence is expected to help hold back or slow volcanic material\nflows, so that the potential impact on areas along the flow path can be\nreduced,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Isnugroho explained that the risk to anticipate is when\nhigh-intensity rainfall occurs in the upper reaches of Semeru, which can\nincrease the potential for lahar flows. Therefore, the physical\ninfrastructure still needs to be supported by community preparedness and\nmonitoring of disaster conditions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this infrastructure, volcanic material flows are expected to be\nmore controlled so that the potential impact on residential areas and\ncommunity activities can be reduced,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>For this reason, the public still needs to understand their living\nenvironment, recognise disaster threat paths and potentials, and follow\nofficial information from the government and disaster officers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe construction of embankments and check dams is also part of\nlong-term efforts to build regional resilience.
