Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that there are no plans\nto withdraw Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) troops from the\nUnited Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in Lebanon. The government had\npreviously been asked to evaluate its involvement in the United Nations\nInterim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) following the incident in which three\nTNI soldiers were killed during the mission.<\/p>\n
Although there are no plans to withdraw troops, Teddy said the\ngovernment continues to evaluate the situation in Lebanon. \u201cThere is\nnothing regarding that (withdrawing troops). Evaluations continue, both\ninternal and external,\u201d Teddy said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta\non Friday night, 10 April 2026.<\/p>\n
According to Teddy, Indonesia is committed to deploying TNI troops\nabroad in missions to maintain world peace. That stance, he said, has\nbeen firmly stated by TNI Chief General Agus Subiyanto and Foreign\nMinister Sugiono.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think the TNI Chief and the Foreign Minister are very firm\nregarding all our soldiers who are abroad and at home,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Teddy conveyed that the deployment of TNI troops to UNIFIL is in\naccordance with the constitutional mandate as stated in the Preamble of\nthe 1945 Constitution. \u201cSo, I think it has been very firmly conveyed\nthat in accordance with the fourth paragraph of the opening of the law:\nto regulate world order. So, we are sending troops there to maintain\npeace and we are firm on the existing evaluations,\u201d Teddy said.<\/p>\n
The Foreign Ministry previously urged the UN and Lebanese authorities\nto ensure that the investigation into the deaths of the three TNI\nsoldiers involved in the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission is conducted\ntransparently and thoroughly. The government also demanded that those\nresponsible be brought to trial immediately.<\/p>\n
\u201cForeign Minister Sugiono has directly communicated with the Lebanese\nForeign Minister and the UN Secretary-General on 30 March 2026 to ensure\nthat the investigation process is carried out promptly, transparently,\nand thoroughly, as well as providing full protection for the security\nand safety of UNIFIL personnel,\u201d said Acting Director for International\nSecurity and Peace of the Foreign Ministry, Veronica Vicka Ancilla\nRompis, during a press conference at the Foreign Ministry office in\nCentral Jakarta on Wednesday, 8 April 2026.<\/p>\n
The three fallen TNI soldiers were Private First Class Farizal\nRhomadhon, Captain Infantry Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, and Sergeant Major\nMuhammad Nur Ichwan. All three were killed due to an artillery attack\nlaunched by Israel in the UNIFIL headquarters area on 29 and 30 March\n2026.<\/p>\n
UNIFIL held a tribute ceremony on 2 April 2026 local time.
