TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The State Electricity Company (PLN) suggested large consumer like industries and offices to reduce the electricity usage by 50 percent. \u201cWe can economize more,\u201d said PLN's General Manager for distribution in Jakarta-Tangerang, Purnomo Willy yesterday. He claimed large industries and offices consume most of the electricity supply in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
PLN will stop supply of 150 megawatt out of 5,000 megawatt in Jakarta because of regular maintenance on July 11-25 that will limit gas supply from BP West Java to Muara Karang and Tanjung Priok power plants. Hence, PLN will stop electricity in Jakarta on July 11-16 at 8am-3pm or 3pm-10pm.<\/p>\n
PLN will also stop electricity for industries with generators. While malls are required to reduce electricity usage on off-peak hours from 1-3pm.<\/p>\n
Purnomo said using air conditioners with temperatures at 25-24 Celsius degrees can save electricity. Unnecessary lights should be turned off especially in a room with sunlight.<\/p>\n
However, the plan to stop electricity may be canceled. \u201cAs long as we can save more electricity,\u201d he said. Meanwhile, Purnomo cannot mention for sure what areas will have no electricity.<\/p>\n
PLN will compensate 10 percent to industries when they have more blackout than normal.<\/p>\n
He promised no blackout on Saturday and Sunday because electricity usage during the weekend is very low.<\/p>\n
He also said public facilities like hospitals, tax services office, electric trains, and water utilities will not have a blackout. \u201cPublic facilities involved many people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Head of the Mining Department of the Jakarta Government, Peni Susanti, said the economizing program will be promoted and supervised by a special organization. Every building will have a special division watching the electricity usage. \u201cThey are in charge,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The head of the Lighting Department for Public Streets, Yusuf Effendi Pohan, said 400 units of lighting on main streets in Jakarta will be turned off after 12 midnight although it is part of public facilities. The billboard's lights should be off too at midnight. \u201cWe will arrange everything so electricity usage can be more efficient,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
