Government appoints ITC to audit KAI<\/p>\n

The government has appointed Indonesia Transportation Club (ITC)
\nas an independent party to audit the operations and safety
\nstandards applied by state train company PT Kereta Api Indonesia
\n(KAI), ITC director Dadan Irawan Sarpingi said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
"Based on a ministerial decree issued by the Office of the
\nState Ministry of State Enterprises on Feb. 6, ITC is appointed
\nas an independent auditor for KAI's operational and safety
\nmatters," Dadan was quoted by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n
The move followed a fatal train collision in December last
\nyear that killed around 50 people. The accident prompted KAI's
\ntop officials to resign.<\/p>\n
Dadan said that the audit process would involve a team of
\ntransportation experts and academics from Jakarta and Bandung,
\nWest Java.<\/p>\n
He added that data-gathering was expected to be completed
\nwithin two months.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere, Antara said that the government was expected to
\nappoint KAI's new board of directors on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The government completed a fit-and-proper test on 24
\ncandidates last month.<\/p>\n
There has been speculation that former KAI business
\ndevelopment director would be appointed as the new president of
\nthe company.<\/p>",
