        "content": "<p>Gorontalo Governor Gusnar Ismail has declared the province\u2019s\nreadiness to accelerate leprosy elimination, following the signing of a\nnational commitment marking a step forward for the region in tackling\nthe spread of the infectious disease. \u201cI have signed the commitment to\naccelerate leprosy elimination at the National Leprosy Conference,\nthemed \u2018Accelerating Leprosy Elimination: Indonesia\u2019s Commitment, Global\nCollaboration\u2019. This signing was carried out together with 37 governors\nacross Indonesia,\u201d Governor Gusnar Ismail said in a statement received\nin Gorontalo on Friday. He stated that the signing represents the local\ngovernment\u2019s commitment to supporting the acceleration of leprosy\nelimination through strengthened policies, funding, and cross-sector\ncollaboration. Anang, a representative, noted that his presence was part\nof efforts to ensure the agreed commitment can be promptly followed up\nat the regional level. According to him, the commitment includes several\nkey points, such as personally leading all elements of society in\naccelerating leprosy elimination, ensuring the issuance of a Governor\u2019s\nRegulation and a Regional Action Plan for leprosy along with its\nstrategies and performance indicators. Furthermore, it involves\nestablishing leprosy elimination as a priority in regional planning and\nbudgeting documents, reducing stigma against people affected by leprosy,\nand guaranteeing access to health services for all sufferers. It also\nincludes ensuring the availability of adequate and sustainable human\nresources, encouraging district and city governments through continuous\nsupervision, and achieving a leprosy case detection target of 70 per\ncent. Anang added that the Governor immediately instructed coordination\nwith the Head of the Gorontalo Regional Development Planning, Research\nand Development Agency to ensure budget support for the leprosy and\ntuberculosis elimination programmes is included in regional planning and\nbudgeting documents. This directive serves as a tangible form of the\nGorontalo Provincial Government\u2019s commitment to ensuring that infectious\ndisease elimination programmes, which must be prioritised, receive\nsustainable policy and financial support. \u201cThe signing of this\ncommitment is clear evidence that Gorontalo is ready to take an active\nrole in accelerating leprosy elimination through joint efforts with all\nstakeholders,\u201d Anang said. The Governor\u2019s directive strengthens the\nmandate for all regional apparatus to move quickly in integrating\nleprosy and tuberculosis elimination programmes into regional\ndevelopment policies.
