Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - YouTube has finally followed the social
media restrictions outlined in PP Tunas. The video-sharing platform is
limiting Indonesian users under 16 years old.

“Essentially, we want to convey that today the government appreciates
YouTube, which is under Google, for submitting a compliance letter. The
compliance letter has been officially handed over directly to the
Director General of Wasdik. Thus, Google has once again given its
commitment to compliance,” said Minister of Communication and Digital,
Meutya Hafid, during a press conference on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

She explained that Google wanted to cooperate and comply from the
start. However, the company needed time to make changes to the
platform.

Starting today, Google’s notifications will include a minimum age
limit of 16 for YouTube users in Indonesia. The video-sharing platform
also plans to deactivate accounts targeted by the regulation.

“Furthermore, YouTube has provided a plan for deactivating those
accounts and simultaneously stated that it will eliminate advertisements
targeting children and teenagers in the future,” she explained.

However, the platform has not disclosed the number of child accounts
affected after complying with the regulation. The tech giant only
assured that it will update the data.

YouTube also said the deactivation process is ongoing. Details of the
process will be informed to the Komdigi side.

“This is ongoing as per our implementation plan. So in the near
future, there will be new updates,” said Danny Ardianto, Head of
Government and Public Policy Hub, YouTube Asia Pacific, on the same
occasion.

CNBC Indonesia’s observation on the Google Support page shows that
YouTube has stated it will update the minimum age requirements in
accordance with PP Tunas provisions. This includes the possibility of
disabling access for those in the specified age group.

“We recognise that changing the minimum age to access YouTube has
important implications for users, and we will ensure users receive
adequate information and updates before any impact on their YouTube
access in the coming months,” Google wrote on the website.
",
