        "content": "<p>Good forestry policy needed<\/p>\n<p>The National Movement for Forest and Land Rehabilitation<br>\nrecently launched by the government is worthy of praise.<br>\nPresident Megawati Soekarnoputri reiterated the necessity to<br>\nensure successful reforestation and rehabilitation efforts.<\/p>\n<p>However, such an appeal is not the first to have been made.<br>\nDespite this, cases of illegal logging and natural disasters<br>\ncaused by forest denudation continue to fill the media. This<br>\nmeans that the officials in charge have consistently failed to<br>\ngive effect to government policy.<\/p>\n<p>Consistency on the part of the Ministry of Forestry is also<br>\nneeded, especially in the commercial forestry sector. If the<br>\ngovernment gives the proper opportunities to timber estate<br>\ncompanies to survive, they will automatically carry out<br>\nreforestation and rehabilitation as required.<\/p>\n<p>In this context, the government should offer the best possible<br>\narrangements to forest-based businesses, like pulp and paper<br>\nindustries, so that they can operate their businesses<br>\nsuccessfully.
