The 100th anniversary of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor has become a\nspecial momentum for the Founder of Darul Aman Islamic Boarding School\n(Yayasan Buq\u2019atun Mubarakah), Kiai Haji Abdul Dalil Thahir. Alongside\nthe Secretary of the Foundation, Ahmad Sahal, he returned to the\nboarding school environment that played a vital role in his educational\njourney and personal development.<\/p>\n
For Kiai Abdul Dalil, attending the centenary of Gontor was more than\njust a ceremony. The moment served as a journey back to his time\nstudying at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor during the 1970s. Gontor\nleft a significant mark on his path of education and service; the\nknowledge, experience, discipline, Islamic values, and insights gained\nas a student became the foundation for his missionary work and community\nservice.<\/p>\n
This educational background also provided the inspiration for Kiai\nAbdul Dalil to establish and develop Pondok Pesantren Darul Aman in\nGombara, Makassar, South Sulawesi. The boarding school\u2019s educational\nvalues, which emphasise character building, mastery of knowledge,\nlinguistic proficiency, and independence, continue to be developed to\nmeet contemporary needs.<\/p>\n
His return to Gontor also facilitated reunions with old classmates.\nThese meetings provided a space for nostalgia and an opportunity to\nreflect on the long journey undertaken since leaving the institution.\nKiai Abdul Dalil also met with the leadership of Pondok Modern\nDarussalam Gontor and the extended family of Universitas Darussalam\n(UNIDA) Gontor, further strengthening the significance of his visit.<\/p>\n
According to Kiai Abdul Dalil, Gontor\u2019s long history demonstrates\nthat the sustainability of an educational institution requires a strong\nvision, consistency in maintaining values, and continuous regeneration\nfrom one generation to the next. One hundred years serves as proof that\neducation must be prepared not only to meet today\u2019s needs but also to\nendure through the ages.<\/p>\n
Returning to Gontor also provided a momentum for Kiai Abdul Dalil to\nreaffirm the educational direction of Darul Aman Islamic Boarding\nSchool. He believes Darul Aman possesses great potential to continue\ngrowing and contributing more broadly in the future. Consequently,\nstudent education is directed towards forming individuals capable of\nmemorising the 30 juz of the Al-Qur\u2019an, understanding religious sciences\nholistically, mastering languages, and acquiring life skills. These\nabilities must grow in tandem so that students are prepared for changing\ntimes without losing their Islamic foundations.<\/p>\n
Kiai Abdul Dalil believes this combination is essential to produce a\ngeneration with both spiritual and intellectual strength, alongside\ncommunication skills and relevant expertise. Students must not only\npossess depth of knowledge but also the capacity to apply that knowledge\nwithin society. \u201cGod willing, Darul Aman also has equally great\npotential to advance and develop over time. Therefore, we must prepare\nour students with a strong foundation: the Al-Qur\u2019an, Arabic and English\nlanguages, and life skills,\u201d said Kiai Haji Abdul Dalil.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Buq\u2019atun Mubarakah Foundation, Ahmad\nSahal, expressed appreciation for the century-long journey of Pondok\nModern Darussalam Gontor. He noted that this journey is part of the long\nhistory of pesantren (Islamic boarding school) education in\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
He stated that pesantren have contributed to human resource\ndevelopment, the advancement of science, the formation of noble\ncharacter (akhlak al-karimah), and the creation of generations that\nbenefit the nation and state. Therefore, Gontor\u2019s centenary can be\nviewed as part of the long-standing contribution of pesantren to\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
Ahmad Sahal encouraged students across Indonesia to take pride and\ngratitude in the opportunity to receive an education in a pesantren.
