        "content": "<p>Amid rising national political dynamics and challenges facing\nIndonesia due to the global geopolitical situation, Mukhamad Misbakhun,\nHead of the Economic Division of the Golkar Party\u2019s Central Executive\nBoard, has urged all political elites to prioritise mature, consistent,\nand responsible conduct when conveying views to the public. According to\nMisbakhun, space for criticism of the government must be preserved as\npart of democratic life. However, he cautioned that criticism should not\nbe delivered in ways that could inflame the atmosphere or trigger\ngreater public tension. \u201cCriticism is important in a democracy so the\ngovernment continues to hear public aspirations. But in a situation\nwhere the nation is under pressure from current geopolitical conditions,\ncriticism should be conveyed with full responsibility, not in a manner\nthat heats things up further. We need calls that cool the atmosphere so\nit subsides,\u201d Misbakhun said in a statement on Sunday. The Chairman of\nthe National Leadership Council of the Central Organisation of\nIndependent Indonesian Employees (Depinas SOKSI) assessed that criticism\nfrom various elements\u2014whether the public, students, national figures, or\npolitical parties\u2014is an essential part of the control mechanism over\ngovernance. Therefore, he said, every piece of input must be respected\nas a form of concern for the direction of development and state\nmanagement. Misbakhun also believes the administration of President\nPrabowo Subianto is not closed to criticism. In fact, he noted, several\npublic inputs have been concretely addressed by the government. As an\nexample, he cited various criticisms regarding alleged irregularities in\nthe implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG), which\nwere subsequently followed up through law enforcement processes. \u201cThe\ngovernment listens to much criticism and input; the proof is that law\nenforcement efforts were undertaken for MBG,\u201d he added. On the occasion,\nthe Chairman of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives\nalso responded to the stance of several elites from the Indonesian\nDemocratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), who have recently been active in\nvoicing criticism of the government amid political developments and\nwaves of public protest. Misbakhun stressed that he respects PDIP\u2019s\nright to convey views and criticism to the government. However, he\nassessed that much of the emerging criticism has yet to offer concrete\nsolutions. In his view, as a party with long experience leading the\nnational government, PDIP should be able to present more substantive and\nconstructive criticism. \u201cPDI Perjuangan has had long experience in\noperating government and state policy. Therefore, the criticism\ndelivered should be more mature, proportional, and solution-oriented,\nnot adding heat to the situation,\u201d Misbakhun stated. Furthermore, the\nlegislator from the East Java II electoral district also highlighted the\nimportance of consistency in political party stances within Indonesia\u2019s\ndemocratic system. Although Indonesia does not recognise a formal\nopposition like several other countries, Misbakhun believes every\npolitical party must still have a clear political position\u2014whether\ninside the government or choosing to be outside of power. He criticised\npolitical practices he deemed ambiguous, where a party enjoys political\nbenefits when government policies receive public appreciation but\nquickly distances itself when the government faces problems or unpopular\npolicies. According to Misbakhun, such a pattern does not reflect good\npolitical ethics. \u201cDo not position yourself as a balancer, but when a\ngood government programme is appreciated, you also want to score points.\nConversely, you immediately criticise harshly when a government\nprogramme is in trouble. That two-footed political position is not\nelegant,\u201d Misbakhun added. He asserted that the public needs firmness of\nstance from political parties. Clarity of position, he continued, is an\nimportant part of political education and democratic maturation. \u201cPlease\nhave differing views and offer criticism, but do not let the public\nperceive an ambiguity of political stance. Consistency is far more\neducational for the people than a stance that changes with the\nsituation,\u201d Misbakhun said. Despite offering several notes on the\nevolving political dynamics, Misbakhun emphasised that all political\nparties should prioritise a spirit of cooperation to solve the nation\u2019s\nvarious problems. According to him, the challenges Indonesia currently\nfaces cannot be resolved merely by blaming one another or sharpening\npolitical differences. Instead, contributions of ideas and solutions\nfrom all political elements are needed. He therefore invited all\npolitical elites to jointly maintain a conducive atmosphere and place\nnational interests above short-term political interests. \u201cLet us\ntogether cool the atmosphere. The task of all political elites is to set\nan example, present solutions, and place the interests of the nation and\nstate above momentary political interests.
