Golkar unveils team lineup for MPR general session<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): State Minister of National Development Planning
\nGinandjar Kartasasmita assisted by, among others, President
\nSoeharto's daughter Siti Hardiyanti Rukmana, will head the
\ndominant Golkar faction at the People's Consultative Assembly
\n(MPR) general session in March.<\/p>\n
The lineup, officially announced by Golkar chairman Harmoko
\nyesterday, put four cabinet ministers on the faction's executive
\nboard and another 11 on the advisory board.<\/p>\n
Golkar will field 488 out of a total 1,000 MPR representatives
\nat the general session which is tasked with electing a president
\nand vice president, along with endorsing the State Policy
\nGuidelines.<\/p>\n
As head of the faction at MPR, Ginandjar will have six
\ndeputies -- Minister of Information R. Hartono, State Minister of
\nPublic Housing Akbar Tanjung, Minister of Transportation Haryanto
\nDhanutirto, Golkar deputies Agung Laksono and Siti Hardiyanti
\nRukmana, along with Golkar executive, Sofjan Lubis.<\/p>\n
Golkar secretary-general Ary Mardjono was appointed the
\nfaction's secretary at MPR.<\/p>\n
Members of the faction's executive board at MPR include
\nPresident Soeharto's son Bambang Trihatmodjo, deputy chairman of
\nthe National Development Planning Board Rahardi Ramelan and
\nKafrawi Ridwan.<\/p>\n
Harmoko, also State Minister of Special Assignments, chairs
\nthe 17-strong advisory board. Included as members of the advisory
\nboard are ministers Hartarto Sastrosoenarto, B.J. Habibie,
\nSoesilo Soedarman, Azwar Anas, Saleh Afiff, Moerdiono, Mar'ie
\nMuhammad, Haryono Suyono, Endang Kusuma Inten Suweno and Tunky
\nAriwibowo.<\/p>\n
Those on Golkar's working committee at MPR include Minister of
\nCooperatives and Small Enterprises Subiyakto Tjakrawedaya,
\nMinister of Manpower Abdul Latief, Director General for Taxes
\nFuad Bawazier, businessman Tanri Abeng and deputy governor of the
\nNational Resilience Institute Juwono Sudarsono.<\/p>\n

Political observer Arbi Sanit said the bureaucrat-dominated
\nlineup confirmed the government's bid to maintain its control
\nover legislative bodies.<\/p>\n
"The top government officials will undoubtedly exercise their
\npower to influence, or at least guide, the session to run on
\ntheir desired track," Arbi said.<\/p>\n
He said the choice of Ginandjar for the faction leadership was
\naimed at accommodating various interests in Golkar's bigger
\nfamily which also includes the Armed Forces.<\/p>\n
"He (Ginandjar) is a mature and experienced figure acceptable
\nto every faction of Golkar," Arbi said. Ginandjar is a retired
\nvice marshal.<\/p>\n
Outgoing Golkar legislator Krissantono said the cabinet
\nministers would serve as key sources for the Assembly to draw up
\nthe State Policy Guidelines and decide the country's future
\nleaders.<\/p>\n
"They have been chosen because they are actors who implement
\nthe state policies. Now that the State Policy Guidelines will be
\nreviewed, their experience is worth taking into account,"
\nKrissantono said.<\/p>\n
However, he said deliberation of the State Policy Guidelines
\nshould accommodate more interests of people at the grassroots
\nlevel.<\/p>\n
"There should be more representatives of actual dominant
\nsocial groups, such as Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah," he
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He said fresh riots in Ujungpandang, South Sulawesi, proved
\nthat some state policies failed to give room to public interests.<\/p>\n
Golkar also announced the lineup of the faction's new
\nleadership in the House of Representatives. Theo Sambuaga will
\nchair the 325-strong faction replacing Moestahid Astari.<\/p>\n
The younger-looking lineup excludes, for the first time since
\n1968, Armed Forces retirees.<\/p>\n
Krissantono said the military's regular presence would now be
\nrepresented by children of Armed Forces retirees. Included as
\ndeputies in the Golkar leadership at the House are Erie Sukardja
\nand Danny Sudarsono. Both are members of the Communication Forum
