JAKARTA: The campaign team of Golkar Party presidential
\ncandidate Gen. (ret) Wiranto will seek more support from mass-
\nbased organizations to help gather support for his bid in the
\nJuly 5 election.<\/p>\n
Irsyad Sudiro, a Golkar leader and member of the team, said on
\nFriday the party would host a national meeting for the
\norganizations here on May 28.<\/p>\n
Golkar won 21 percent of the vote in the April 5 legislative
\nelection and expects between 5 percent and 7 percent more in the
\npresidential election.<\/p>\n
Wiranto's running mate Solahuddin Wahid is expected to woo
\nsupport from members of the 40 million-strong Nahdlatul Ulama

JAKARTA: The National Resilience Institute (Lemhanas) pledged
\non Friday to remain neutral in the presidential election.<\/p>\n
Lemhanas governor Ermaya Suriadinata said during a ceremony in
\nobservance of the institute's 39th anniversary that despite its
\nneutrality, it would be delighted if one of its graduates was
\nelected the next president.<\/p>\n
Golkar Party's presidential aspirant Wiranto, Democratic
\nParty's presidential candidate Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Agum
\nGumelar, the running mate of United Development Party's
\npresidential candidate Hamzah Haz, are Lemhanas graduates, while
\nIndonesian Democratic Party of Struggle's presidential nominee
\nMegawati Soekarnoputri is an honorary member of the institute. --

\nand the North Korea Sciences Academy agreed on Friday to
\ncooperate in biotechnology research and exchange of scientists.<\/p>\n
Secretary of the minister of research and technology Ashwin
\nSasongko said the joint research would focus on biomass
\nutilization for future energy and animal vaccination.<\/p>\n
\"We will also discuss the use of nuclear energy but there is
\nno specific cooperation in that field,\" Ashwin said after a

JAKARTA: The Association of Indonesian Municipal Legislatures
\n(Asdeki) urged on Friday the government and the House of
\nRepresentatives to maintain the genuine spirit of regional
\nautonomy when amending Law No. 22\/1999 on regional
\nadministration.<\/p>\n
\"We do not oppose the review but urge the government and the
\nHouse to keep regional autonomy intact,\" Asdeki's deputy chairman
\nRudi Mastura told a press conference.<\/p>\n
Rudi, who is also the speaker of Palu Legislative Council in
\nCentral Sulawesi, said the association also demanded that the
\ngovernment and the House allow the association to participate in

JAKARTA: The Agency for the Assessment and Application of
\nTechnology (BPPT) will hold a three-day seminar aimed at raising
\npublic awareness of technology next week.<\/p>\n
During the seminar, which starts on Tuesday, experts and
\ngovernment officials will talk about a synergy between technology
\nand industry in a bid to improve productivity and product
\ncompetitiveness. An exhibition will cap the event.<\/p>\n
BPPT will also organize a computer assembling competition for
\nsenior high school and university students at the end of June,
