Golkar Party Secretary-General Sarmuji has called on Nahdlatul Ulama\n(NU) members to internalise the Qanun Asasi, saying that a deep\nappreciation of the organisation\u2019s philosophical foundation is essential\nto ensure that nahdliyyin continue to prioritise unity.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf NU administrators truly internalise this Qanun Asasi, God\nwilling, there will be no stories of NU members quarrelling or causing\nuproar. What will exist is an NU that keeps moving forward,\u201d he said in\na statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Sarmuji made the remarks while speaking at a \u201cPesantren Thought\nHalaqah\u201d held on the sidelines of the 35th NU Congress in Jombang, East\nJava, on Friday evening (28\/8).<\/p>\n
He explained that K.H. Hasyim Asy\u2019ari formulated the preamble of the\nQanun Asasi with reference to Surah Al-Ahzab verses 45\u201346, which\ndescribe the Prophet Muhammad as a witness, a bearer of glad tidings, a\nwarner, a caller to the religion of Allah, and an illuminating lamp.<\/p>\n
According to Sarmuji, the choice of these verses reflects the hope\nthat NU should be present to bring values of goodness, provide joy to\nsociety, and serve as a light in the life of the nation.<\/p>\n
He also said the Qanun Asasi emphasises the importance of unity and\nthe benefits of collective action. For this reason, he argued, NU\u2019s\nstrength lies in togetherness and collective movement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Qanun Asasi is not merely a basic set of rules; it is the raison\nd\u2019\u00eatre, the very reason for NU\u2019s establishment. It is both a foundation\nfor thinking and a picture of how NU ought to serve,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The halaqah carried the theme \u201cEmulating and Reinterpreting the Qanun\nAsasi of Nahdlatul Ulama,\u201d in line with the agenda of the 35th NU\nCongress.<\/p>\n
In addition to Sarmuji, the forum held at the Gedang Mosque in\nTambakberas also featured K.H. Fatchulloh Malik of the Ribath Al Utsmani\nat Bahrul Ulum Pesantren (PPBU) Tambakberas and K.H. Ubaidillah from\nBogor.<\/p>\n
Ubaidillah presented the history and meaning of the NU Qanun Asasi,\nwhile Fatchulloh Malik explained the history of Bahrul Ulum Pesantren\nTambakberas and the role of the Gedang Mosque in NU\u2019s early\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n
