Golkar executive detained<\/p>\n
SURABAYA: Prosecutors detained the head of the Golkar Party
\nchapter in Surabaya on Tuesday on charges of misusing party
\nfunds, marking the latest arrest of a senior politician in the
\nEast Java city.<\/p>\n
Golkar executive Amien Ismail was sent to Madaeng prison after
\nprosecutors summoned him to their office.<\/p>\n
\"As a good citizen I still respect the supremacy of the law,\"
\nsaid Amien, who is also a member of the Surabaya City Council.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors charged him of selling a car that belonged to
\nGolkar, and using the proceeds to buy another car for himself.<\/p>\n
\"This is not a corruption case but an ordinary crime,\" said
\nthe head of the prosecutors' office, Luhut Pakpahan.<\/p>\n
His office had earlier detained City Council Speaker M. Basuki
\nand his deputy Ali Burhan on corruption charges.<\/p>\n
The arrests come against the backdrop of a tense relationship
\nbetween the council and Surabaya Mayor Bambang Dwi Hartono.<\/p>\n
Last year, Bambang survived councillors' attempts to remove
\nhim just a month after they had managed to dismiss his
