Golkar claims Bung Karno, too<\/p>\n
DENPASAR: Golkar campaigners here say they, too, have the
\nright to tout pictures of founding president Sukarno, or Bung
\nKarno, because \"he belonged to all Indonesians rather than only
\nto the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan)\".<\/p>\n
Ida Tjokorda Pemecutan told a gathering of thousands of Golkar
\nsupporters in Karangasem on Sunday evening that Golkar needed to
\nlearn from past mistakes of both Soeharto and his predecessor,
\nfirst president Sukarno.<\/p>\n
\"There are always positive sides to every leader's regime,\" he
\nsaid, as quoted by Antara, in the regency 90 kilometers east of
\nhere. \"Let's call a spade a spade.\"<\/p>\n
It was also reported that following the gathering, the Golkar
\nsupporters were intercepted on their way back to Denpasar by a
\ngroup of PDI Perjuangan supporters in Ulakan, about 20 kilometers
\naway from Karangasem.<\/p>\n
The PDI Perjuangan supporters accused Golkar of ruining one of
\ntheir flags. The Golkar supporters detoured and took another
\nroute to Denpasar.<\/p>\n
Antara also reported that four people were injured in a clash
\nbetween Golkar and PDI Perjuangan supporters in Sesetan
\nsubdistrict, South Denpasar, on Saturday.<\/p>\n
Local police spokesman Major Y. Suyatmo said on Sunday the
\nfour victims were rushed to a hospital in Denpasar. He said the
\nincident broke out on Saturday when a convoy of PDI Perjuangan
\nsupporters passed the house of a local Golkar figure, Wayan
\nChandra, where many party supporters had gathered.<\/p>\n
There were no details of how the clash broke out, but the
\ninjured were identified as Agus, 18, I. Made Ngurah Sulang, 29,
\nAndre Ade K., 29, and Wayan Natih, 24, who came off their
\nmotorcycles and were beaten up. (swe)<\/p>",
