Golkar Secretary-General M Sarmuji has agreed with Home Affairs\nMinister Tito Karnavian\u2019s proposal for political parties to strengthen\ntheir party schools and train regional head candidates before nominating\nthem in regional elections. Sarmuji said regional heads nominated by\nGolkar are the party\u2019s responsibility.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, what the Home Affairs Minister said is entirely correct. First,\nthe party certainly has an obligation to carry out political education,\nand in this context political recruitment, and because of that\nresponsibility, those recruited must be people of integrity with\nprofessional capability,\u201d Sarmuji told reporters at the Training of\nTrainers (TOT) event of the Golkar Party Academy at the Golkar Central\nExecutive Board office in West Jakarta on Monday (3\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
Sarmuji said the party is obliged to train cadres assigned to become\npublic officials even before they take up those posts. This is necessary\nso that cadres do not go off track once they become public\nofficials.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, the party is obliged to provide training from an early\nstage, even before they are assigned as public officials. When they\nbecome public officials, it is also the party\u2019s obligation to keep every\nmember who holds public office on the proper rails,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Even so, Sarmuji once again questioned the high cost of politics at\npresent. According to him, this is one of the factors that makes\nregional heads vulnerable to being caught in sting operations (OTT) by\nthe Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, there is an unavoidable factor that must also be evaluated,\none that in our collective consciousness, in our common sense, has long\nbeen regarded as the root of the problem. Namely, the high cost of the\npolitical process for someone to become a regional head candidate. That\npolitical root must of course be resolved,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Sarmuji urged that deliberations on the Election Bill also address\nthis issue. He asked that the matter be discussed so that a solution can\nbe found.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, in the process of deliberating political laws, especially\nthe regional elections law, we must examine that root problem together\nand seek genuine solutions. Not solutions born of an incorrect\ndiagnosis, but solutions based on a diagnosis we have all understood\ntogether,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian had earlier asked political\nparties to strengthen their party schools and train regional head\ncandidates before nominating them in regional elections. He also\nproposed that political parties reinforce their cadreisation processes\nbefore nominating regional head candidates.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, this is baiting. Let us leave that to the lawmakers \u2014 whether\nthey want to go through regional councils, it is not prohibited by the\nconstitution. It would simply require amending the Regional Elections\nLaw.
