Golkar accepts Rahardi's resignation<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Golkar Party accepted on Friday former trade minister
\nand State Logistics Agency (Bulog) chief Rahardi Ramelan's
\ndecision to leave the party.<\/p>\n
The party's announcement came a day after Rahardi, who is a
\nmember of Golkar's advisory board, said he would resign from the
\nparty as it did not support him during his corruption trial.<\/p>\n
Rahardi was found guilty and sentenced to two years in jail
\nfor misusing Bulog's funds.<\/p>\n
"If he (Rahardi) said so (intention to resign), we can't do
\nanything about it. It's his right," Golkar chairman Akbar
\nTandjung said.<\/p>\n
He denied Rahardi's statement that Golkar did not provide any
\nsupport for Rahardi, saying that Golkar members had always
\nattended Rahardi's trial.<\/p>\n
He said his party would remain solid despite Rahardi's
\nresignation. "We have passed through similar challenges before,
