Golf balls no longer a nuisance<\/p>\n
With reference to your Aug. 2, 1998 edition in which you
\npublished a letter to the editor by Oberlin S. from Yogyakarta
\nregarding the golf course of the Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta, I
\nwould like to make the following statement:<\/p>\n
I find it rather astonishing that The Jakarta Post copies a
\nletter from another newspaper (Kompas) containing outdated and
\ninaccurate information. I would expect your newspaper to
\ninvestigate issues before you state untrue things and by this
\nstart damaging the reputation of a hotel.<\/p>\n
Although the fact that golf balls were landing on our
\nneighbor's house is certainly right, the situation today is
\ndefinitely different.<\/p>\n
The golf course was never the issue in January 1998 but the
\ndriving range. A net was immediately installed to rectify the
\nproblem. However, the height and length were not sufficient and
\nin June we extended the net for a second time.<\/p>\n
To further increase the security and safety and to assure a
\npeaceful life for our neighbors we have altered the operation of
\nthe driving range, allowing only pitching on the side where the
\nhouses (now protected by a much higher fence) are located and
\ndriving on the opposite side. A call to Pak Oberlin in Yogyakarta
\nwill confirm this statement.<\/p>\n
The reputation of your newspaper has always been good -- is it
\nreally necessary to print articles from other sources without
\nchecking them out first?<\/p>\n
