        "content": "<p>Golden trophy for sailing race winner<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The organizers of the Arung Samudra 1995<br>\ninternational sailing race are offering a golden trophy for the<br>\nwinner.<\/p>\n<p>The 40 centimeter high trophy, in the shape of a sailor, will<br>\nbe awarded in the tallship category in the Arung Samudra 1995<br>\nrace between Benoa in Bali and Tanjung Priok in Jakarta this<br>\nAugust, the race&apos;s manager Commodore Yoewarsono told reporters<br>\nyesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Yoewarsono said the tallship race itself involves several<br>\ncategories determined by the length and type of vessel used.<\/p>\n<p>The race is one of the highlights of this year&apos;s 50th<br>\nIndependence anniversary celebration. Another is the parade of<br>\nwarships scheduled for Tanjung Priok harbor on Aug. 19.<\/p>\n<p>Yoewarsono said a total of 124 vessels, ranging from sailing<br>\nboats to warships, have been registered for the race and the<br>\nparade.<\/p>\n<p>Trophies also await the winners of the various categories in<br>\nthe yacht race.<\/p>\n<p>The organizers have invited internationally recognized judges<br>\nto judge the races which will be run in accordance with the<br>\nrules of the Sail Tallship Training Association and the<br>\nInternational Yachting Race Union.<\/p>\n<p>The yacht race, which will cover 630 nautical miles, will be<br>\nlaunched on Aug. 7. The tallship race, covering 480 miles, will<br>\nbe on the following day.<\/p>\n<p>Chile is sending the longest tallship, at 110 meters. Other<br>\nforeign participants come from Australia, Chile, Italy, the<br>\nUnited States, Japan, Russia, France and a number of other<br>\ncountries.<\/p>\n<p>The Navy&apos;s chief spokesman, Lt. Col. Eddy Irawan, earlier said<br>\nthat 70 warships from 18 countries will take part in the fleet<br>\nparade on Aug. 19.<\/p>\n<p>Among the foreign countries that will send big warships are<br>\nAustralia, the United States, Britain, Japan, South Korea, New<br>\nZealand, China and the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p>Australia has already registered the participation of HMAS<br>\nDarwin, HMAS Torrens, HMAS Wallongung and  HMAS Whyalla, the<br>\nUnited States USS Mobile Bay and USS Rodney M. Davis from the<br>\nPacific Fleet, Britain HMS Sheffield and HMS Brambeleaf and the<br>\nNetherlands will send HrMS Van Nes  and HrMS Van Galen.<\/p>\n<p>The organizers currently are busy preparing accommodations for<br>\nthe 15,000 crew members of the warships and the sailing vessels<br>\nwho will all congregate in Jakarta on Independence Day, Aug. 17.<\/p>\n<p>The &quot;Marine Village&quot; is now being built near Tanjung Priok<br>\nharbor, according to Navy Col. Soekapdjioto, head of the<br>\nexhibition and souvenir section of the organizing committee.<\/p>\n<p>He said the village, equipped with business and communication<br>\nfacilities, is expected to be busy around the clock.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be competitions for the sailors during their<br>\nstay in the village, he added.
