Nari\u00f1o Governor Luis Alfonso\nEscobar confirmed that the evacuation process had ended.<\/p>\n<p>The tragedy prompted a response from the local government. Escobar\nspecifically urged the national government, the National Mining Agency\nand Colombia\u2019s Ministry of Mines and Energy to take concrete action on\nthe status of mineworkers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccelerate the formalisation process for illegal and small-scale\nminers,\u201d Escobar said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis step is intended to improve working conditions and safety\nstandards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first fatal mining incident in the area.
