Gold coin sparks dispute<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Yusuf Hasyim, the uncle of former president
\nAbdurrahman Wahid, filed a report with the House leaders of the
\nlaunch of gold coins bearing the picture of his father Hasyim
\nAsy'ari.<\/p>\n
Yusuf, better known as Pak Ud, claimed that the launch of the
\ngold coins brought about disharmony among the big family of the
\nfounder of the country's largest Muslim organization Nahdlatul
\nUlama.<\/p>\n
Yusuf was referring to the Hongkong-based Gold Quest
\nInternational (GQI) which plans to market the gold coin. The plan
\nhas been approved by Abdurrahman, who has set up a foundation to
\nmanage royalties from the business.<\/p>\n
He urged support from the House of Representatives and the
\ngovernment for the closure of GQI's operation in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Yusuf's lawyer Luthfi Hakim said GQI had noticed the objection

BANDA ACEH: Banda Aceh District Court sentenced on Monday
\nIrwandi Yusuf alias Teungku Isnandar Al-Passe, a campaigner of
\nthe Aceh Free Movement (GAM), to seven years in jail for treason.<\/p>\n
Presiding judge Musa Arief Aini said Irwandi was found guilty
\nof violating Article 106 of the Criminal Code for working as a
\ntranslator for GAM's spokesman Sofyan Daud.<\/p>\n
Irwandi, a former lecturer at the state-run Syiah Kuala
\nUniversity, was often seen in GAM activities, including the
\ninauguration of GAM's commander Muzakir Manaf two years ago.<\/p>\n
The verdict was a half the prosecutors' demand sentence of 14
\nyears in jail.<\/p>\n
\"I think the judge is fairer than the prosecutors,\" said
\nIrwandi, commenting on the verdict.<\/p>\n

JAKARTA: The Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu)
\nquestioned on Monday the General Elections Commission (KPU)'s
\ndecision to let Love the Indonesian Nation Democratic Party (PDKB
\nIndonesia) pass its administrative screening.<\/p>\n
Panwaslu member Topo Santoso said the party, which
\nparticipated in the 1999 election under Love the Nation
\nDemocratic Party (PDKB), had no legal status yet.<\/p>\n
He said the legal problem had started since PDKB, which failed
\nto meet the 2 percent electoral threshold in the 1999 election,
\nfailed to change its name when it registered with the Ministry of
\nJustice and Human Rights as a political party in February this
\nyear.<\/p>\n
Based on the political party law, parties that failed to meet
\nthe electoral threshold in 1999 must join other parties or
\nregister as new ones to contest the 2004 election.<\/p>\n
Strangely, the ministry granted PDKB the legal entity status.
\nLater on, PDKB changed its name into PDKB Indonesia, in which the
\nministry approved.<\/p>\n
Topo said it was PDKB which should have undergone the next
