God sees all<\/p>\n
I refer to the happenings on Sunday Nov. 22, later known as
\nthe Ketapang incident.<\/p>\n
We had not yet recovered from the torching of churches in
\nBanyuwangi and Bondowoso one year ago, and now similar happenings
\nhave taken place in Jakarta. The impression is even worse because
\nthere was an intention on the part of the masses to destroy the
\nJakarta Cathedral, said to be the oldest church in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Various assumptions have been put forward on the cause of the
\nburnings. But I am not going to write on that subject. I just
\nwonder whether the culprits are not afraid of God. Do they not
\nknow that God sees all? If we want to qualify as religious people
\nwe should be aware that above us there is a power that cannot be
\nopposed by demonstrations or arms. Nothing can be done by
\nProtestants and Catholics here except shake their heads
\ndejectedly.<\/p>\n
We are convinced that we cannot avenge such criminal acts,
\nbecause we have been taught not to avenge crime with crime. In
\nother words, revenge is God's business.<\/p>\n
I have a master's in international business law. I am
\nconvinced that the current economic crisis is caused by the
\nimposition of the implementation of the globalization process.<\/p>\n
However, as a religious person and having seen the recent
\nhappenings in Indonesia, I am not surprised that the economic
\ncrisis is still being felt. Additionally, there are forest fires,
\nthe destruction of rice fields attacked by locusts and the La
\nNia that will cause floods in December.<\/p>\n
