The area in front of the Harco Building in Glodok, West
\nJakarta, remains messy despite the iron fence and traffic signs.
\nClearly, local authorities have failed to exercise proper control
\nover this area.<\/p>\n
Dozens of sidewalk vendors crowd the entry to this shopping
\ncompound, while the slow lane in Pinangsia Raya Road, the road
\nleading to the entry of this compound, is crowded with parked
\nmotorcycles and taxis despite the "No-Parking" signs. Automobiles
\nare also parked along this road while some other sidewalk vendors
\nare also found in parts of the fast lane, despite the green iron
\nfence separating the fast and slow lanes.<\/p>\n
The taxes that people pay are spent, among other things, on
\nthe payroll of civil servants, including those working for the
\nWest Jakarta Public Order Office. This money seems to have been
\nwasted as the agencies concerned fail to bring order to this
\narea.<\/p>\n
The West Jakarta mayor must see for himself how messy the
\nsituation around the Harco Building is. He must not just nod his
\napproval to reports from his subordinates.<\/p>\n
