Globetrotters set to slam dunk RI<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The legendary American basketball team the
\nHarlem Globetrotters is to show off its prowess in four shows in
\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
The first two exhibitions are scheduled for Oct. 29 and Oct.
\n30 at the Kertajaya Sports Hall, Surabaya, and the final two are
\nto be on Nov. 2 and Nov. 3 at the Senayan Basketball Hall,
\nJakarta.<\/p>\n
Solikhin Kasum of the organizing committee told a press
\nconference Monday that the exhibitions, sponsored by private TV
\nchannel RCTI and PT Medifarma Lab, are aimed at helping the
\npublic develop an appreciation of basketball.<\/p>\n
The Globetotters, dubbed \"the Magicians of Basketball,\" will
\nperform the combination of basketball skills and stage
\nperformances they have shown to more than 100 million spectators
\nin 113 countries in the past seven decades.<\/p>\n
The team, recognized as the world's best basketball
\nentertainers, have had its slam dunk records included in the
\nGuinness Book of World Records.<\/p>\n
It has also played basketball on ice, in a drained swimming
\npool and on the deck of an aircraft carrier.<\/p>\n
Solikhin said that the Americans' individual skills and well-
\nknit teamwork, which are often blended with humor, can be a model
\nfor developing basketball and increasing the sport's popularity.<\/p>\n
Solikhin said that the country's younger generation could
\nlearn from the team's technical skills during its visit.<\/p>\n
The Globetrotters scheduled to perform in Indonesia, are
\nRandall Neil Edney, Thomas A Gillespie Bennet, Morgan Kelley
\nKlotz, Sean Boyle McGovern, Nathan Anthony O'Neil, David Michael
\nShrivers II, Anthony Demetrius Stewart and Douglas Kelley
