A shortage of semiconductor components and disruptions to the global\nsupply chain have led to significant price increases for laptops and\ncomputer devices. The situation is driven by high demand for components\nused in artificial intelligence (AI) technology and data centres\nworldwide.<\/p>\n
Head of Public Relations at ASUS Indonesia, Muhammad Firman, stated\nthat the PC and laptop industry is directly impacted because\nsemiconductor manufacturers are currently prioritising supply for AI\ndata centres. As a result, the availability of processors, RAM, and\nstorage media for consumer devices has become limited.<\/p>\n
\u201cProducts with the same specifications as last year could see price\nincreases of up to 50%. A laptop that previously sold for around Rp6\nmillion could now reach Rp8 million,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to Firman, the price increase is most acutely felt in the\nentry-level segment, which is highly price-sensitive. Consequently,\ndemand in that segment has dropped by approximately 20-30% compared to\nthe previous year.<\/p>\n
To navigate these conditions, ASUS is shifting its sales focus to the\nbusiness, commercial, and enterprise segments, which still require\ndevice upgrades to support company operations. For the consumer segment,\nASUS continues to offer added value through after-sales services,\nincluding on-site servicing for institutional customers such as\nschools.<\/p>\n
Despite the limited component supply, Firman emphasised that AI\ntechnology is already available in the latest generation of processors\nand graphics cards.
