The Banten Regional Police have announced that the disturbance in\nfront of the Indonesian Protestant Christian Church (GKPI) Mauk Sepatan,\nRajeg, Tangerang Regency, has ended peacefully. However, the GKPI\ncongregation will temporarily worship at an alternative location while\nthe administrative process for the place of worship\u2019s permit is being\nhandled.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe local government will assist in providing a temporary venue for\nworship activities while the administrative process regarding the permit\nproceeds in accordance with applicable regulations,\u201d said the Head of\nPublic Relations for the Banten Regional Police, Kombes Maruli Hutapea,\non Tuesday (22\/09\/2026).<\/p>\n
Maruli noted that mediation between the GKPI party and the opposing\ngroup concluded on Sunday night (20\/09\/2026) with a peaceful agreement.\n\u201cThe parties have agreed to reconcile. We hope all parties can respect\nthe agreement made and work together to keep the situation conducive,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
Maruli also urged the residents of Tangerang Regency, particularly\nthose in the Rajeg District, not to be easily provoked by unverified\ninformation, including hoaxes, provocations, or irresponsible\nincitements.<\/p>\n
Man Carrying Machete During Disturbance<\/strong><\/p>\n Previously, a disturbance involving a man carrying a machete in front\nof GKPI Mauk Sepatan ended peacefully. The matter was resolved through a\nfamily-style settlement after both parties underwent mediation.<\/p>\n The mediation was led by the Regent of Tangerang, Maesyal Rasyorkan,\nand the Tangerang City Police Chief, Kombes Andi Muhammad Indra Waspada\nAmirullah, at the Rajeg District office on Sunday night (20\/09\/2026).\nPresent at the mediation were the Special Staff for the Ministry of\nReligious Affairs on Religious Harmony, Gugun Gumilar, the Tangerang\nRegency Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) alongside\nthe Ministry of Religious Affairs, and the Religious Harmony Forum\n(FKUB) of Tangerang Regency.<\/p>\n Also in attendance were members of the Rajeg Sub-district Leadership\nForum (Muspika), community leaders, religious figures, and relevant\nparties to seek a peaceful resolution.<\/p>\n According to the Tangerang City Police, during the deliberation, the\nprotesting group and the GKPI party agreed to resolve the issue through\na family-style settlement and would not escalate the matter. A\nrepresentative of the GKPI congregation, Hadi Sucipto, stated that they\naccept the peaceful resolution and will not pursue the issue\nfurther.<\/p>\n During the session, Aji Cahyono, the man who brought a machete and\ndemanded that worship be stopped, also offered an apology to the GKPI\ncongregation for the previous incident. He admitted to his error and\nstated he would not repeat his actions.<\/p>\n Both parties subsequently drafted and signed a statement of agreement\nas a form of amicable settlement. Furthermore, it was agreed that the\nlocal government would facilitate the search for a temporary place of\nworship for the congregation while awaiting the permit process.<\/p>\n Tangerang City Police Chief Kombes Andi Muhammad Indra Waspada\nAmirullah expressed his appreciation for all parties choosing to resolve\nthe issue through deliberation. \u201cThe most important thing is to maintain\nharmony and public security,\u201d said Indra Waspada in his statement on\nMonday (21\/09\/2026).<\/p>",
