Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian horror-comedy film \u201cGhost in the\nCell\u201d has recorded 3.2 million viewers since its debut in Indonesian\ncinemas on April 16th, 2026.<\/p>\n
Producer Tia Hasibuan from Come and See Pictures announced the figure\ntoday at the opening of the \u201cMacabre Art Installation Ghost in the Cell\u201d\nevent in the Melawai area, South Jakarta, on Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we look at the number of viewers of the film in Indonesia, as of\ntoday, it\u2019s 3.2 million, most of whom are in Jakarta, as Jakarta has the\nmost cinemas. We want, among other things, to bring the film\u2019s viewers\nto enjoy this \u2018art installation\u2019 directly,\u201d said Tia.<\/p>\n
Tia said that the film, written and directed by Joko Anwar, is also\nexpanding into international markets with the target of screenings in 86\ncountries.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, currently, besides Indonesia, we have screened it in Singapore,\nMalaysia, Cambodia, and Thailand on May 7th, and Taiwan will be soon,\u201d\nsaid Tia Hasibuan.<\/p>\n
The management team targets that this international distribution\nprocess will be carried out gradually until the end of the year.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight now, we are preparing because each country has different\nscreening dates. It seems that until the end of the year, there will\nstill be countries that are just starting to screen it in their\nrespective places. So, for now, we are focusing on that, country by\ncountry,\u201d said Tia.<\/p>\n
This success has prompted Come and See Pictures to immediately\nprepare the next project next year.<\/p>\n
Tia said that the production house will adapt the story of \u201cGhost in\nthe Cell\u201d into a musical theatre performance.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn fact, when Joko (Joko Anwar) wrote the screenplay, it was planned\nfrom the beginning that we would make it into a musical. That\u2019s why the\nscreenplay for this film is a bit different. By different, I mean the\nscenes are very few, but each scene is quite long, like a musical,\u201d said\nTia.<\/p>\n
The production team will open public auditions to find new players\nfor the musical project.<\/p>\n
