A road collapse in Klungkung, Bali, triggered by heavy rain has disrupted student travel between Getakan and Bakas villages, posing safety risks. Authorities have issued warnings and are coordinating with the Public Works Department to expedite repairs. The incident underscores the vulnerability of local infrastructure during extreme weather events.

Heavy rain in Klungkung Regency, Bali, caused the road connecting
Getakan Village to Bakas Village in Banjarangkan Subdistrict to collapse
on Tuesday (26 May 2026). This has raised concerns, especially for
students who rely on the route daily.

Kadek Sugiarta (17), a student from Bakas Village, expressed his
concerns when crossing the road. He stated that the Getakan-Bakas route
is a major path frequently used by schoolchildren.

“Many students from Bakas and other villages use this route daily to
attend Smarapura High School. If the road remains like this, it could be
dangerous,” Sugiarta said when interviewed by detikBali at the scene on
Tuesday (26 May 2026).

Sugiarta added that while there are alternative routes connecting
Bakas to Banjarangkan, they are less efficient for students due to
longer distances.

“There is another road via Bakas-Banjarangkan, but it is longer and
takes more time. Therefore, we hope the collapsed road will be repaired
quickly,” he added.

detikBali observed that the collapsed section of the Getakan-Bakas
road had consumed half the carriageway. On the collapsed embankment,
concrete road barriers hung precariously. Banjarangkan Police Station
had placed warning signs and police tape, while the affected road and
landslide area were covered with tarpaulin. Some students were seen
carefully crossing the road, and a red-plated vehicle was observed
turning back, while others cautiously navigated the partially collapsed
section.

In a separate confirmation, I Putu Widiada, the Acting Head of
Klungkung Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), confirmed that the heavy
rain was the primary cause of the road collapse. He urged the public,
especially drivers, to be more cautious.

“We urge the public to exercise extreme caution when passing through
the road, especially when driving during rain,” Widiada said.

He assured that authorities would not ignore the hazardous
infrastructure condition and would coordinate quickly to address it.

“We will immediately process potential budget allocations for road
repairs. The first step is to coordinate directly with the relevant
agency, Klungkung Public Works Department (Dinas PUPR), to ensure prompt
action,” he added.
",
