Germany minister visits Indonesian university<\/p>\n
\"It's very impressive,\" said Germany's education and research
\nminister Edelgard Bulmahn (right, with handbag), commenting on
\nthe Swiss German University in Serpong, West Java.<\/p>\n
\"Students get good training and qualifications here,\" she said
\nduring her visit to the university campus on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Bulmahn said that the relatively young university, established
\nin 2000, was very well managed and could be a model for future
\nGerman-influenced universities in the world.<\/p>\n
Rector Peter Pscheid (standing to the right of Bulmahn) said
\nthat the minister's visit provided moral support for the
\nuniversity's efforts to sustain quality education for its 650
\nstudents.<\/p>\n
Stefanus Andika, 19, said he decided to go to SGU instead of
\ngoing abroad because he could obtain education that was
\ncomparable in quality at a lower price.<\/p>\n
\"Classes here are also smaller than at other schools,\" said
\nAndika. \"The professors know our names here.\"<\/p>\n
Although it is an Indonesian university, the SGU works closely
\nwith the governments of Austria, Switzerland and Germany, the
\nlatter country playing a leading role.<\/p>\n
The cost of a semester's tuition at SGU is US$2,200. SGU
\nstudents also undertake two six-month internships, one in
\nIndonesia and one abroad, with Germany being the most common
\ndestination. Students who graduate get two degrees, one issued by
