Germany gives RI US$206m<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): German Finance Minister Theo Waigel signed a
\nmemorandum of understanding (MOU) yesterday to provide Indonesia
\nwith Dm375 million (US$206 million) in financial assistance to
\nhelp fight the economic crisis.<\/p>\n
The aid package comprises two credit programs worth Dm300
\nmillion and development assistance totaling Dm75 million.<\/p>\n
The credit programs include Dm250 million in export credit
\nguarantees for small and medium enterprises having trouble
\nfinding local finance for investment projects or for capital
\ngoods and imports of raw materials. The export credits will be
\nchanneled through Bank Indonesia, the central bank.<\/p>\n
A further Dm50 million in credits will be made available for
\nsmall and medium enterprises through the banking system and will
\nnot be tied to any particular projects.<\/p>\n
\"With this facility provided through the MOU, we provide
\nassistance to them to enable small and medium enterprises to
\ncarry out their exports and also to help them take some
\nrestructuring measures,\" Waigel said after signing the MOU during
\na one-day visit with his counterpart Mar'ie Muhammad.<\/p>\n
\"I think these measures, together with the IMF reform program,
\nwill set an important signal which will create confidence in the
