German-trained group to dance at GKJ<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The modern dance group Kreativitat Dance
\nIndonesia will stage five pieces at the Gedung Kesenian Jakarta
\n(GKJ) in Central Jakarta on Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n
Led by GKJ's chairwoman and renowned dancer Farida Oetoyo, the
\ndance company is made up of artists who studied dancing or music
\nin Germany.<\/p>\n
The dance company will stage the works of Chendra Effendy,
\nFarida Oetoyo and Yudistira Syumas.<\/p>\n
The planned performances are Chendra's Asa (Hope), Farida's
\nKontras, Tok and Perjalanan 20 Detik (A 20-Second Journey) and
\nYudistira's Lullaby. The leading dancers are Aprida Darmawansjah,
\nChristine Tjahyono, Mira Tedja, Sita Kristiana, Chendra Effendy
\nand Henry Jones.<\/p>\n
Most of the pieces have been staged before.<\/p>\n
Chendra's Asa won an encouragement award during GKJ's dance
\ncompetition in 1997. The upcoming shows will feature Aprida
\nDarmawansjah, Christine Tjahyono, Mira Tedja and Sita Kristiana
\nas the dancers.<\/p>\n
Farida's Tok was first staged at the Taman Ismail Marzuki arts
\ncenter in 1985. But for the coming performance Farida has
\nenriched the dance with humorous touches and more elastic
\nmovements. The dancers will also wear masks and red costumes.<\/p>\n
Perjalanan 20 Detik, which will feature Chendra and Aprida
\nDarmawansjah, was first staged two years ago, while Kontras was
\nperformed in September during the dance company's first official
\nperformance, also at GKJ.<\/p>\n
Yudistira, who studied ballet in Germany for four years, first
\nstaged Lullaby in September last year. For the Friday and
\nSaturday performances, the music has been composed by Wong Aksan
\nand will be sung by Poppy Andaresta.<\/p>\n
Farida said that by featuring these pieces she is trying to
\nenrich the youth of today's appreciation of contemporary art
\nperformances such as dance.<\/p>\n
\"That's why I'm trying to create a dance that will be easier
\nto understand by young people,\" she said.<\/p>\n
Her decision to stage older works was also expected to further
\npromote the dance company.<\/p>\n
\"Our main intention is to provide a chance for those who
\nmissed the previous shows to watch them now,\" Farida told The
\nJakarta Post.<\/p>\n
