German state's firms seek RI partners<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Executives of 32 companies from Germany's
\nfederal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg are visiting Indonesia to tap
\ninto Indonesia's growing business activities.<\/p>\n
During their visit, the companies' representatives are holding
\na two-day symposium to promote their products and to seek local
\npartners.<\/p>\n
The Baden-Wuerttemberg minister of economy\/deputy prime
\nminister, Walter Doering, said yesterday the 32 small and medium
\ncompanies were extremely interested in investing in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Indonesia, with its market economy and high economic growth,
\nis very attractive for investment, he said.<\/p>\n
The companies make machine tools, precision tools,
\nmanufacturing automation, control systems and optoelectronics,
\npumps, paper processing machines, packaging machines and
\nconstruction machines.<\/p>\n
\"We have recognized that it is absolutely essential for the
\nfuture of the export of the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg that our
\ncompanies are present on the world's most dynamic markets, to
\nwhich Indonesia belongs,\" Doering said.<\/p>\n
The symposium at the Jakarta Hilton Convention Center was
\nopened by Minister of Research and Technology B.J. Habibie.<\/p>\n
The symposium, titled \"Technical Symposium Baden-Wuerttemberg.
\nTechnology made in Germany\", ends today. It was organized by the
\nstate's economic ministry and the German-Indonesian Chamber of
\nCommerce and Industry.<\/p>\n
The symposium has drawn about 800 participants.<\/p>\n
\"We hope about 12 contracts will be signed at the end of the
\nsymposium,\" the chamber's director Fritz Kleinsteuber said.<\/p>\n
Largest<\/p>\n
Baden-Wuerttemberg, in the southwest of the Federal Republic
\nof Germany, is the largest of the 16 federal states both in size
\nand with its population of 10 million.<\/p>\n
It is one of the economically strongest regions in Europe with
\nkey industries including mechanical engineering and its
\nautomobile industry.<\/p>\n
Some large companies, like Mercedes-Benz, Bosch and Porsche,
\nhave their headquarters in the state. The state's economy is,
\nhowever, driven by numerous export-oriented, small and medium
\ncapital goods enterprises.<\/p>\n
Through its Landeskeditbank, the state is also financially
\nsupporting the foundation of the German Center for Industry and
\nTrade in Bumi Serpong Damai, West Jakarta. The cornerstone of the
\nfacility was laid by Doering on Monday. (jsk)<\/p>",
