Generators rented for Madura<\/p>\n
SURABAYA: The state electricity company PLN has been forced to
\nrent generators with a total capacity of 40 megawatts (MW) for
\nMadura which has been without electricity since Friday due to
\ndamage to an undersea cable, Antara said.<\/p>\n
\"This is PLN's short-term effort to provide the island with
\nelectricity while awaiting the repair of the cable which was hit
\nby the anchor of the Singaporean motor vessel, Kota Indah,\" East
\nJava Governor Imam Utomo said following a meeting between
\nrepresentatives of PLN and MV Kota Indah here Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Utomo said the generators, which are being rented from private
\ncompanies, will come in stages. He called on residents to be
\npatient.<\/p>\n
The local administration, he said, has been providing at least
\n40,000 liters of clean water every day to the districts of
\nBangkalan, Sampang, Pamekasan and Sumenep.<\/p>\n
The state oil company, Pertamina, has also been supplying more
\nthan 270,000 liters of kerosene every day, he added.<\/p>\n
Head of the provincial office of PLN, Hisban Achmad, said the
\ncompany has rented 14 generators for some public facilities,
\nincluding hospitals, the telecommunications office, and the
\nmunicipal waterworks office.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, spokesman of the local Pertamina office, Tata
\nPandaya, said there are enough stocks of kerosene for the island.<\/p>\n
\"I hope the people on the island do not get nervous, because
\nPertamina has enough stocks of kerosene for them. We have
\nincreased the stocks by almost 50 percent over regular supplies,\"
\nhe added.<\/p>",
