Generals touted for blackmailing<\/p>\n
CIREBON, West Java: Unidentified blackmailers have often used
\nnames of police generals in Jakarta and West Java to squeeze
\nhundreds of millions of rupiah from local authorities.<\/p>\n
The blackmailers' names have often been used when talking on
\ncell phones, including National Police detective chief Insp. Gen.
\nEngkesman Hillep, West Java Police Chief Insp. Gen. Sudirman Ail,
\nand Cirebon district police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Siswandi.<\/p>\n
Siswandi said that a man claiming to be Engkesman Hillep
\ncalled his office when he was holding a recent press conference,
\nand asked him to transfer Rp 150 million to a bank account.<\/p>\n
Suspicious of the caller, Siswandi directly contacted the
\ngeneral's adjutant to check his boss's cell phone number, which
\nturned out to be different.<\/p>\n
He then tried to contact the caller, but failed to talk with
\nhim.<\/p>\n
\"I was suspicious because I know exactly how the voice of the
\ngeneral sounded, as we often contact each other for
\ncoordination,\" Siswandi said on Friday.<\/p>\n
He said Kusmayanto, a suspected blackmailer, once forced the
\nrector of the Bandung Institute of Technology at his order to
\ntransfer Rp 100 million to an account belonging to a man claiming
\nhimself as a minister in Jakarta.--JP<\/p>",
