General faces axing over BNI probe<\/p>\n

National Police operations chief Brig. Gen. Samuel Ismoko will
\nface a disciplinary hearing and possible dismissal if found to
\nhave violated the police's code of ethics during the BNI
\ninvestigation.<\/p>\n
Ismoko, the former head of the National Police's fraud squad
\nwho led the investigation into the Rp 1.7 trillion scam at Bank
\nNegara Indonesia, is also facing criminal charges for allegedly
\naccepting bribes from Adrian Herling Waworuntu, one of the key
\nsuspects in the scandal.<\/p>\n
Deputy chief of detectives Insp. Gen. Dadang Garnida said on
\nWednesday investigators had found evidence Ismoko abused his
\nposition and rank to provide special privileges to Adrian during
\nthe investigation.<\/p>\n
Although Dadang declined to say exactly what Ismoko was
\naccused of, he said his team had found enough evidence to bring
\nIsmoko to a disciplinary hearing.<\/p>\n
\"Right now we are waiting for the supervisor in charge (chief
\nof detectives Comr. Gen. Suyitno Landung) to decide when the
\nhearing will take place,\" Dadang said.<\/p>\n
Adrian slipped out of the country earlier this year after
\nallegedly paying bribes to Ismoko.<\/p>\n
He surrendered to police in October and his trial is now
\nunderway at the South Jakarta District Court.<\/p>\n
Another key suspect in the case, Maria Pauline Lumowa, is
\nstill at large.<\/p>\n
If Ismoko is found guilty at the hearing, he could face
\ndismissal from the force for indiscipline and violating the
\npolice's code of ethics.<\/p>\n
\"We will start to investigate the criminal charges against
\nIsmoko next week,\" Dadang said.<\/p>\n
Ismoko was cleared internally of bribery charges two months
\nago after the internal affairs division failed to present
\nevidence to support the allegations.<\/p>\n
\"Criminal acts have to be tried publicly even if they are
\ncommitted by a police officer,\" Dadang said.<\/p>\n
He said it would take several weeks to investigate the
\ncriminal charges because officers had to prepare detailed reports
\non the charges.<\/p>\n
The head of the National Police's internal affairs division,
\nInsp. Gen. Suprijadi, who is also a member of the team
\ninvestigating Ismoko, said he strongly suspected Ismoko was
\ninvolved in bribery.<\/p>",
