        "content": "<p>Deputy Chair of the MPR RI, Lestari Moerdijat, has spotlighted the\nburgeoning reading activity among Generation Z. According to a Jakpat\nsurvey institute\u2019s research for the second semester of 2025, the\npercentage of reading activity among Gen Z (aged 14-29 years) reaches\n26%. This figure is higher compared to Millennials (30-45 years) at 20%\nand Gen X (46-61 years) at just 18%. Lestari stated that this increase\nin reading interest among the younger generation must not be squandered.\nIn her view, this valuable momentum should be utilised by stakeholders\nto sustainably boost Indonesian society\u2019s literacy. \u201cThis increase in\nreading interest among the younger generation must be utilised to the\nbest of our ability through various strategic steps to ensure\nsustainability and ultimately enhance Indonesian society\u2019s literacy,\u201d\nLestari said in her statement on Thursday (23\/4\/2026). Furthermore,\nLestari revealed that young people are now seeking alternative\nactivities that are more quality-oriented to fill their leisure time.\nHowever, high reading interest does not automatically correlate with\nsociety\u2019s literacy levels. To ensure that the reading habit has a\nbroader impact, Lestari believes consistent strategic steps are needed.\nOne of them is mobilising reading communities, both digital and\nphysical, to encourage organic growth of discussions and book reviews\nwithin society. In addition, schools and universities must promote\nlearning patterns that enable students not only to read but also to\nprocess, critique, and re-present the information obtained. On the other\nhand, the availability of easily accessible reading materials\u2014whether\nthrough physical or digital collections\u2014and affordable book prices are\nalso crucial factors in increasing public reading interest.
