Jakarta (ANTARA) - Geely Auto Indonesia is hosting the Geely Jakarta\nVertical Run 2026 at the Autograph Tower, Thamrin Nine, Jakarta, on\n14-15 November. This marks the first vertical running event in Indonesia\nto be officially recognised by the Towerrunning World Association.<\/p>\n
\u201cGeely sees that vertical running contains elements of competition,\ninnovation, and the drive to always be the best, making it a great\nopportunity to introduce our automotive products,\u201d said Constantinus\nHerlijoso, Sales and Channel Development Director of Geely Auto\nIndonesia, during a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday.<\/p>\n
He stated that the event, themed \u2018Race to the Top of Jakarta\u2019, is\npart of Geely\u2019s efforts to introduce the sport of vertical running to\nthe public while simultaneously promoting automotive products that\nembody the concept of sustainability.<\/p>\n
Adrian Lee, Race Director of the Geely Jakarta Vertical Run 2026,\nexplained that the competition is officially registered with the\nTowerrunning World Association and will utilise the emergency staircases\nof the Autograph Tower.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs of 3 September, approximately 450 participants from 16 countries\nhave registered, and this number is expected to continue increasing,\nwith a target of reaching one thousand participants,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He explained that participants will climb nearly two thousand steps\nin a vertical route that technically covers approximately 80 floors.\nAlthough the Autograph Tower features numbering up to 108 floors, that\nfigure includes lift numbering, the omission of certain floors, and\nbasement areas that are not part of the race route.<\/p>\n
The organisers have prepared three competition categories: Elite,\nOpen, and Master. For the Open and Master categories, participants will\nbe released in waves of five people every five minutes, while the\narrangement for the Elite category will be determined based on the\ntechnical requirements of the race.<\/p>\n
He stated that the timing system will use the \u2018net time\u2019 method,\nmeaning winners will be determined by each participant\u2019s individual\nelapsed time, rather than who crosses the start line first.\nAdditionally, participants will be declared finishers once they reach\nthe finish line at the top of the building and ring a bell provided by\nthe organisers.<\/p>\n
Adrian added that the organisers will provide several water stations,\nmarshals in various zones, and CCTV support to assist in monitoring\nparticipants and race conditions. According to him, the risks in a\nvertical building race are relatively lower compared to trail or\nmountain running activities.<\/p>\n
