        "content": "<p>Garuda gets new routes<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): The government has approved the increase of<br>\nGaruda Indonesia's domestic routes from 12 to 34, Director<br>\nGeneral of Air Transportation Zainuddin Sikado said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>He said the new routes include those linking Medan in North<br>\nSumatra with Surabaya in East Java, Medan with Ujungpandang in<br>\nSouth Sulawesi and Surabaya with Pontianak in West Kalimantan.<\/p>\n<p>He said the flag carrier's new routes, to be introduced<br>\ngradually, will not overlap with those served by its subsidiary,<br>\nMerpati Nusantara.<\/p>\n<p>The new routes consequently will expand Garuda's daily flight<br>\noperation from eight to 11 hours, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sikado said that the government will allow Sempati Air, a<br>\nprivate airline, to fly to Madras in India and Taipei, while<br>\nBouraq, another private airline, will serve Davao in the<br>\nPhilippines.(32)<\/p>",
