Garuda, Bouraq sign agreement on aircraft maintenance<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The national air carrier Garuda Indonesia and
\nBouraq airlines signed an agreement here yesterday to maintain
\nthe private commercial airline's fleet at the Garuda Maintenance
\nFacility (GMF).<\/p>\n
"GMF, which received certification from the United States
\nFederal Aviation Administration in 1992, has been able to
\nmaintain and repair small and wide aircraft," Garuda's president,
\nWage Mulyono (right), said after signing the agreement with
\nBouraq's president, Jerry A. Sumendap (left).<\/p>\n
He said several domestic and foreign airlines use GMF to
\nmaintain their aircraft. The airlines include Pelita Air Service,
\nGatari Airfast, Sempati Air, Kuwait Air, Air Libanon and World
\nAirways.<\/p>\n
Under yesterday's agreement, Garuda will also provide training
\nand assistance for Bouraq's personnel on aircraft maintenance.<\/p>\n
Sumendap said that utilizing GMF's facilities will help Bouraq
\nreduce maintenance expenditures by 20 percent.<\/p>\n
"We used to maintain our aircraft at various facilities in
\nother countries, including Singapore, the United States and Hong
\nKong," he said.<\/p>\n
Bouraq also maintained some of its aircraft at PT Industri
\nPesawat Terbang Nusantara (IPTN), the state-owned aircraft
\nproducer in Bandung, West Java.<\/p>\n
Bouraq's vice president, G. Benny Rungkat, told The Jakarta
\nPost that GMF's average maintenance fees run at US$30 per hour,
\nfar lower than $50 charged by foreign maintenance facilities.<\/p>\n
Bouraq's fleet is comprised of seven Boeing 737-200s, three
\nturbo-prop VC-843s, two Cassas and 15 turbo-prop BAE-748s.(icn)<\/p>\n
