Garuda apologizes to Sarwono<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Garuda Indonesia's president Soepandi has
\napologized to Minister of Environment Sarwono Kusumaatmadja for
\nan embarrassing incident that left the minister stranded on the
\ntarmac of the Soekarno-Hatta airport on Monday.<\/p>\n
According to a statement by the airline's public relations
\noffice, Soepandi promised to take severe action against his
\nemployees at the airport for their negligence that caused the
\nminister to miss his flight to Singapore.<\/p>\n
The quality of Garuda's service and its employees are crucial
\nin the fiercely competitive world of the airline business, the
\nstatement read. \"That's why Soepandi will not hesitate to take
\nsevere action against employees who fail to perform in accordance
\nwith company regulations and consumer demands.\"<\/p>\n
Sarwono, who was to attend a meeting with his counterparts
\nfrom the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, checked in
\nthirty minutes before the plane's departure time of 6.10 a.m. and
\nproceeded to the VIP lounge waiting for the embarkation
\nannouncement. An airline officer came to fetch him and escorted
\nhim onto a bus to go to the plane. When they reached their
\ndestination, the plane had already departed.<\/p>\n
Sarwono was put on a Singapore Airlines flight an hour later.
