Garuda and
\nprivatization<\/p>\n
The editorial on the privatization of Garuda Airlines which
\nappeared in The Jakarta Post on Thursday, Dec. 8, 1994, certainly
\npoints to a number of constraints that Garuda Indonesia faces in
\nmeeting international conditions, such as the layers of
\nbureaucratic procedures. Another would relate to the problems of
\nintroducing new aircraft, particularly on the European Asian
\nroute. However, the lack of a competitive edge suggested as a
\nresult of inadequate human resources is both unfair and
\ninaccurate.<\/p>\n
On the contrary, it is the human resources of Garuda
\nIndonesia, in spite of institutional constraints mentioned, that
\nhas enabled the Airline to compete on international routes.
\nUnfortunately this is often overloaded by critics who continue to
\nfly other airlines other than the national carrier, and are
\ntherefore not aware of the progress achieved. As Garuda Indonesia
\ncontinues to compete effectively with foreign carriers, it's
\nhuman resources deserve recognition.<\/p>\n
