Garin cautious on Iraq war issue<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Noted Indonesian director Garin Nugroho believes that
\na move he calls \"a one-day moratorium on American products\" would
\nbe better than mass street demonstrations to express objection to
\nthe U.S.-led attack on Iraq.<\/p>\n
He said on Friday he would refrain from drinking Coca Cola for
\na day as a symbolic act of protest over the war in Iraq.<\/p>\n
Nugroho, who has won numerous national and international
\nawards for his films, also frowned upon a recent call by the
\nKabah Youth Movement (AMK) Muslim group for movie theaters in
\nBandung to stop screening American movies.<\/p>\n
\"That (boycotting American films) is also aggression; we
\nshould not respond to America's aggression in Iraq with
\naggression,\" Garin said.<\/p>\n
People should have the freedom of choice whether to watch or
\nnot to watch American movies, he added. -- JP<\/p>\n
