Garbage adds refugee problems<\/p>\n
ATAMBUA, East Nusa Tenggara: As if East Timorese refugees in
\ncamps across Belu regency did not have enough problems already,
\nthey now have a new menacing problem -- what to do with mountains
\nof garbage.<\/p>\n
Atambua's chairman of Uni Timor Aswain (UNTAS) Agustinho Pinto
\nsaid UNTAS was coordinating with local government officials to
\novercome the problem.<\/p>\n
"The garbage has mounted and really affects the health of
\nrefugees especially at this time during the rainy season," he
\nsaid as quoted by Antara.<\/p>\n
Atambua's subdistrict head Bria Seran admitted that the
\ngarbage problem has yet to be handled.<\/p>\n
"But in a meeting with (Belu) regent Marsellus Bere, we have
\ndecided to establish a City Parks and Cleaning Agency soon. But
\nuntil then, we will have to coordinate with the Public Works
\nAgency to handle the garbage," he said. (hdn)<\/p>",
