Without adequate packaging, the risk of product
damage increases, distribution efficiency is disrupted, and ultimately,
national food security may be weakened.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Food and Beverage Producers
Association (GAPMMI) appreciates the steps taken by the Minister of
Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita to ensure the continuity
of plastic packaging raw material supplies amid geopolitical
turbulence.

GAPMMI General Chairman Adhi S. Lukman views the guarantee of plastic
packaging availability as a crucial factor for the resilience of the
national food and beverage industry, especially amid the dynamics of the
crisis in the Strait of Hormuz region.

“The government’s efforts to integrate upstream and downstream
industries represent a strategic step so that the entire industrial
ecosystem can mutually support each other. This synergy is vital to keep
the food and beverage industry resilient in facing global
uncertainties,” Adhi stated in his remarks in Jakarta on Friday.

He explained that packaging is not merely a complement but a vital
element in the national food system because it functions to maintain
product quality and safety, extend shelf life, and ensure smooth
distribution from producers to consumers across Indonesia.

GAPMMI also emphasised the importance of joint commitment between
upstream and downstream industries in maintaining the continuity of
plastic packaging supply so that its benefits can be felt evenly,
including by small and medium-sized industries (IKM).

“IKM are the group most vulnerable to price distortions and raw
material shortages. The guarantee of packaging supply will help IKM
maintain business continuity, sustain product competitiveness, and avoid
spikes in production costs,” Adhi said.

Amid global logistics challenges, including the increase in raw
material delivery times from an average of 15 days to around 50 days,
GAPMMI encourages the evaluation and relaxation of policies or
regulations that are feasible in extraordinary conditions.

In this regard, GAPMMI supports the Ministry of Industry’s efforts to
strengthen national petrochemical industry independence through
diversification of plastic packaging raw material sources and reducing
import dependency.

With close collaboration between the government and industry players,
the food and beverage sector is expected to remain a pillar of economic
growth as well as a supporter of national food security.
",
