        "content": "<p>Jakarta - The Chairman of the Central Executive Board (DPP) of the\nIndonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), Ganjar Pranowo, is\npushing for firm action against the practice of money politics by\nclassifying it as a serious electoral crime.<\/p>\n<p>Ganjar made this statement in response to the Corruption Eradication\nCommission\u2019s (KPK) proposal regarding restrictions on the use of cash or\nphysical currency in the stages of general elections.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ganjar, limiting cash can indeed be one preventive\nmeasure, but it must be accompanied by strong law enforcement to create\na deterrent effect.<\/p>\n<p>He assessed that without strict sanctions, the practice of money\npolitics will continue to recur because it is seen as part of the\nstrategy to win the contestation.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to law enforcement, Ganjar also emphasised the importance\nof other preventive steps, such as lowering political costs and\nproviding a fairer campaigning space.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe proposal to limit the use of cash can be one way to prevent\nmoney politics, but it is not the main solution,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He reminded the public not to view the giving of money in elections\nas a blessing.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, he also encouraged internal reforms in political\nparties through cadre training and democratisation to produce candidates\nwith integrity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFurthermore, voter education is needed that election bribes are not\na blessing, including democratisation within the party, so that parties\nare required to conduct cadre training to prepare integrity candidates,\nwhich can involve the KPK, universities, and civil society,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n<p>KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said that such regulations are\nnecessary because the use of cash in the election process is still very\ndominant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis condition is seen to increase the opportunities for vote buying\nor money politics, which has long been a classic problem in electoral\ndemocracy,\u201d Budi said in Jakarta on Saturday (25\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>According to him, this view is the result of a corruption prevention\nstudy involving four groups of resource persons, namely representatives\nof political parties, election organisers, electoral experts or\nobservers, and academics.<\/p>",
