        "content": "<p>Gang fights now a trend?<\/p>\n<p>From Jayakarta<\/p>\n<p>Gang fights among secondary high school students seem to have<br>\nbecome a trend. The fights go so far that sometimes students<br>\nwound and kill their foes.<\/p>\n<p>One day during the month of Ramadhan I saw a group of students<br>\ncarrying sickles, belts, stones and bamboo ready for a gang<br>\nfight.<\/p>\n<p>Security officers do make efforts to control student gang<br>\nfights, usually either by persuasion, by instruction (a course at<br>\nCondet) or by punishment, particularly for those carrying sharp<br>\nweapons.<\/p>\n<p>I have observed that students in general lack courteous<br>\nbehavior. Students&apos; behavior should not be the sole<br>\nresponsibility of teachers. Parents have a strategic role in<br>\neducating their children.<\/p>\n<p>Factors contributing to student behavior are parents,<br>\nteachers, law enforcers, the community and religious dignitaries.<br>\nThese people should work together to instill discipline and<br>\ncorrect behavior in our youth.<\/p>\n<p>TEGUH SUYONO<\/p>\n<p>Bogor, West Java<\/p>",
