        "content": "<p>Ganesha statue found in Magelang<\/p>\n<p>YOGYAKARTA: A Ganesha statue was found recently in Mantingan<br>\nhamlet, Magelang, Central Java, some 15 kilometers from the<br>\nrenowned Borobudur Temple.<\/p>\n<p>The statue of Ganesha (the God of Knowledge), which is<br>\napparently much older than Borobudur itself, was unearthed by<br>\nRahmad Murdi, 54, a local resident when he was digging the<br>\nfoundations for a house.<\/p>\n<p>When he was digging his mattock stuck a hard object, which<br>\nturned out to be a statue of Ganesha, 80 centimeters in height<br>\nand 100 centimeters in width.<\/p>\n<p>\"The mattock struck the statue after I had dug two meters<br>\ndeep,\" said Rahmad on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>He and other residents unearthed the statue and reported it to<br>\nthe police.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, an archaeologist from Gadjah Mada University, Dwi<br>\nPrasetyo, said that the statue could be much older than Borobudur<br>\nTemple as there was an ancient inscription that had been found<br>\nnear the place where the Ganesha statue was unearthed.
